Consistory & Committees > Committees

Committees are made up of elders, deacons and other members of the congregation. Each committee focuses on one area of the church's mission and purpose, and they work together to implement programs and direct the focus of that area.

Christian Education Committee

The Christian Education Committee is responsible for maintaining the education programs of First Reformed and challenging the members of First Reformed to new areas of growth. This committee supervises and maintains Sunday school for preschoolers through adults, Wednesday evening Bible studies for first graders through adults, youth groups, the Christmas program and vacation Bible school.

Members include the Christian Education Director, Elder Representative, Sunday School Superintendents (of entire Sunday School, Intermediate Department, Primary Department), Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Family Night Superintendent, Sr. RCYF Sponsors and Jr. RCYF Sponsors.

Meetings occur on the first Monday of the month.

Church Privilege Committee

The Church Privilege Committee manages use of the church facility. Any reservations of the church are finalized through this committee.

Members include the full consistory, with deacons serving as chairpersons.

Meetings occur as needed.

Congregational Fellowship and Support Committee

The Congregational Fellowship and Support Committee facilitates ways for members to care for each other. This committee provides fellowship opportunities for the congregation, contacts church visitors and help communicate information about the church to members and visitors.

Members include two elders, two deacons and six other members of the congregation.

Meetings occur on the first Monday of the month.

Evangelism and Mission Committee

Christ in the GardenThe Evangelism and Mission Committee reaches out to our community and the world to share the Gospel. Responsibilities include coordinating worship at Pleasant Acres Retirement Center, arranging and planning Mission Sunday, facilitating outreach into the community, promoting the mission program of First Reformed Church, organizing mission trips for members of the congregation and encouraging evangelistic programming in educational programs and worship.

Members include two elders, one deacon and six other members of the congregation.

Meetings occur the first Monday of each month.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee guides church staff and the consistory on various issues in the church. Responsibilities include ongoing supervision of the senior pastor, visitation pastor, education administrator, secretary and custodians. They also include guiding the full consistory on major issues facing the congregation, setting goals for the consistory and providing pulpit supply in the absence of the pastor.

Members include the pastor; the first vice-president, second vice-president and clerk of the consistory and the chairman and vice-chairman of the deacons.

Meetings occur quarterly.

Worship Committee

The Worship Committee oversees worship services in the church. Responsibilities include planning the ministry of music for all services, recruiting choir directors, supervising the Praise Team and planning any special worship events.

Members include the pastor, one elder, two deacons and the choir directors.

Meetings occur quarterly.
