Rev. Verlyn Boone, Senior Pastor

As Senior Pastor, Rev. Boone leads the congregation in worship and cares for the spiritual lives of church members. He actively participates in the consistory and various committees, guiding and planning programs of the church. He also calls on church members who are ill, shut-in or want to visit with a pastor.

Verlyn and his wife Sue live in Hull. Sue is employed at Boyden-Hull Public School. They have two sons. Their oldest son Adam and his wife live in Sibley, IA, and their younger son Andy is a student at Northwestern College. Verlyn enjoys running, sports and reading.

Anita Flier, Director of Education and Outreach

As Director of Education and Outreach, Anita Flier helps plan education programs at First Reformed Church. She provides resource materials and trains and supports teachers and leaders in the education department. She also assists in organizing mission work projects and assists the youth sponsors in projects for young people.

Anita was raised on a farm near Alvord, IA. She enjoys playing and watching volleyball, writing, reading, serving at Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) and Young Adults and Teens Encounter Christ (YATEC) weekends, spending time with friends, listening to praise and worship music and working with youth.

Clarice Kooima, Secretary

As Church Secretary, Clarice handles many administrative responsibilities at the church. She assembles the monthly newsletter Highlights, puts together the weekly bulletin and delivers mail to members' mailboxes, along with various other duties. Clarice has served First Reformed Church for over 35 years.

Clarice and her husband John live in Hull. Her husband John is in the insurance business. They have three adult children. Their son Michael, his wife Beth and their daughters live in Colorado Springs, CO. Their son Rick, his wife Kathy and their children live in Sioux Falls, SD. Their daughter Renee, her husband Dan and their children live in Renwick, IA. Clarice enjoys sports, traveling, spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading and embroidery.

Darin and Julie Van Oort, Custodians

As Custodians, Darin and Julie care for and maintain the church building.

Darin and Julie live in Hull. Darin is originally from Doon, IA and Julie is from Rock Valley, IA. Darin currently works at Pella Windows in Sioux Center, IA. The Van Oorts have three children. Their son Marcus lives in California, and their daughters Chelsea and Jordyn are students at Boyden-Hull High School. Darin and Julie enjoy spending time with their children and attending their activities. Darin also likes to golf and Julie enjoys reading, exercising and shopping.
